New escape room helps customers relive Teton Dam disaster 45 years after it happened

Image
REXBURG – Floodwaters are rushing your way and will engulf you and your town in 25 minutes unless you can solve the clue to prevent it from happening. That’s the premise of the Teton Dam Evacuation Escape room, which opened in Rexburg Saturday on the 45th anniversary of the Teton Dam flood. Staff members at the Musem of Rexburg created the experience, which is designed to help people relive what happened that day while having fun at the same time. “An accountant working on the Teton Dam project got to work on June 5, 1976. He was told there were some leaks and that he had to evacuate all of the towns below him and then get out himself. That is what our escape room is based on,” Museum Curator Ashley Tietjen tells EastIdahoNews.com. REXBURG — It’s back-to-school time at Madison High School and students are getting a first look at the results of a $27 million bond passed back in 2017. “I hope for a feeling of pride,” said Madison School District Superintendent Geoffrey Thomas. “That the students can look at the facilities that have been constructed for them and recognize the support the community has for them. The school bond was passed to accommodate for growth and to improve facilities across the Madison School District 321. “We built classrooms onto Kennedy and Burton Elementary. Those are two of our fastest-growing elementary schools. The classrooms are in use right now. We built 12 additional classrooms onto the high school, including two science labs and a robotics lab,” said Thomas.         REXBURG, Idaho — A seven-time National Junior College Athletic Association Cross Country Coach of the year has taken his talents to another level—grade school and junior high school.  Doug Stutz loves it. “When we coached at Ricks College, we wanted that to be successful. We love to be of service to the youth in the community, and hopefully, we can help some of them develop a love for the sport and maybe want to continue to help bolster our middle school and high school programs here in the area,” said Stutz. Stutz started the Rexburg Track Club to help his children have a good experience with track and field. His children have since outgrown the youth program, but Stutz decided to keep it going. He feels that helping young people achieve excellence is rewarding, but this track club is also about giving kids a chance to try something new. “In our club, we let them try all the different events.  One fellow who started as a distance runn...
